Cubic metres formula: length × width × height
For a rectangular prism, volume equals length × width × height, with all dimensions expressed in metres. One cubic metre is exactly 1,000 litres. The calculation does not account for the thickness of container walls or space taken up by internal objects.
For example, 5 × 4 × 2.5 metres gives 50 m³ or 50,000 litres. Pools with sloped bottoms require a different calculation. Square metres measure area, while cubic metres measure three-dimensional volume.
Frequently asked questions
Is one cubic metre 1,000 litres?
Yes. This is an exact metric conversion.
Can I use it for a swimming pool?
For a rectangular pool with uniform depth only. Use internal dimensions to estimate its water capacity.
